The Azienda Agricola Perazzeta, owned by Alessandro Bocci, is located on the verdant hill overlooking the village of Montenero d’Orcia, with its cellar in the town centre.
The approximately 10 hectares of vineyards are divided into four different areas, at an elevation of 350 metres, with excellent sun and breeze exposure. The vineyards are in tufa soils with good gravel-pebble texture. Plant density is 5,000/hectare, on the spur-pruned cordon system.
The main grape variety is of course the sangiovese, which thrives in the local hillside climate. But we see outstanding results, too, from ciliegiolo, cabernet sauvignon, cabernet franc, merlot, and syrah.
Trebbiano is the most important white, with substantial amounts of chardonnay and malvasia.
Vineyard yield is kept very low and carefully monitored: it ranges from 50 quintals/hectare for the best reds to 70 for the standard wines.
Picking is carried out by hand, often in several passes through the vineyard: only this way can we be assured of an absolutely top-quality wine.
