 General Information

Villa Le Corti is surrounded by its farm-estate; approximately 250 hectares dedicated to the region's typical production: Chianti Classico wine and Extra Virgin Olive Oil.
About one-fifth of the land (49 hectares) is devoted to vine-growing.

In 1995 the vineyards were replanted and the average density of vines per hectare passed from the traditional 3000 to the present-day 6000. Sangiovese, the finest vine used to produce Chianti Classico DOCG, is cultivated in most of the vineyards. Other red berry vines (Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon and Canaiolo) and white berry vines (Tuscan Malvasia and Trebbiano) are also grown.
Even the form of vine-training and ramification systems have changed in the vineyard. The spurred cordon is the most widely used form of training, with vines ramifying 60 cm above the ground so as to draw maximum benefit from the heat of the soil.

The position of the vineyards is uniform, oriented from South East to South West, at a height ranging between 220 and 330 metres above sea level.

The soil, of lacunal and coastal origin, has an important skeleton with a gravel/clay structure. It is reasonably well endowed with organic matter and microelements and fertility is average. Great attention is paid to the hydraulic-agricultural layout. The soil, climate and altitude of the Corti hills produce pleasant well-structured wines in which softness, roundness and elegance prevail.

Le Corti Estate also has 13,000 olive trees spread over the entire land.

In 1985 almost all the olive trees in Tuscany were completely destroyed by frost, giving rise to a dramatic change in the landscape. 96% of the farm-estate's centuries-old olive trees were destroyed.

Today most of the olive groves have been brought together in an area of the Farm overlooking Florence. The Frantoio olive tree is the main cultivar, followed, in order of importance, by the Moraiolo and lastly, Leccino and Pendolino olive tree. The renewal programme, which began in 1986, is still underway.

The grindstone olive mill has never closed down and is housed in one of the eighteenth century buildings close to the garden of the Villa. Today it combines traditional olive pressing methods with the modern and clean process of decanter extraction.
The Extra Virgin Olive Oil produced in November is preserved in old Impruneta terracotta jars housed in the Jar store (link con visita virtuale dell'orciaia), thought to be the oldest and largest in Chianti Classico.
