Arnaldo Crociani, a producer of fine wines in Montepulciano, belongs to a family whose members have spent a lifetime amongst vats, barrels, bottles and flasks. Arnaldo's father and grandfather were cellarmen to the Conti Samueli and he himself, since he was a boy, was cellarman to the Marchesi Ricci Paracciani and of the Cantina del Redi, which, in the 1950's, was the first cellar to open to the public. The owner of vineyards situated at Le Caggiole, one of the most attractive areas in the heart of the Vino Nobile production zone (described by Repetti in his renowned dictionary as: "a land habitually clad with a wonderful vegetation of choice vines of ancient olives...") Arnaldo has always been fiercely attached to ancient winemaking tradition, and his wines represent the best that local production can offer. With an unusually wide range of activities and interests for one person (from 1945 he was the ballad singer of the Bruscello, he was awarded the gold medal by the blood donation society and the Golden Glass by the F.I.S.A.R. Sommelier Association, he was a member of the choir of Santa Maria delle Grazie, a cornet-player in the town band, and last but not least a unique Father Christmas eagerly awaited every year by all the local children), Arnoldo Crociani had become a real istitution linked to his beloved native town, Montepulciano. His children now carry on the family tradition. The vineyards, covering about 10 hectares, are on medium-textured soils well-suited to the growth of the vine and giving excellent results.
Vinification takes place in a cellar near the vineyards while the wine is aged in the fourteenth-century cellars in Via del Poliziano 15, in the upper part of the old centre of Montepulciano. Bottling is also carried out here and visitors therefore have the enjoyable opportunity of watching this part of the winemaking process.
